There is finally some movement on Pluribus season 2, but fans hoping for a quick return may have to wait a long time.
The writing for the second season of Vince Gilligan’s Apple TV+ sci-fi series has reportedly been completed, clearing the way for production to move forward. Gilligan’s writing process has been unusually complicated, as the creator has acknowledged that he does not work from a fixed long-term story plan and can sometimes write himself into difficult corners.
He said last month that the team had finally managed to “break” season 2, suggesting that the direction of the new episodes had become clearer.
But the timeline from the first season offers little reason for optimism about an early premiere.
Writing on season 1 was completed around January 2024, while Pluribus eventually premiered on November 7, 2025 — a gap of roughly 22 months.
If the same schedule applies to season 2, with writing finishing in September 2026, the new season could arrive around July 2028. That would put almost two years and eight months between the first and second seasons.
That would be comparable to Severance, which had a gap of around two years and nine months between its first two seasons. The team behind that series has said it is hoping to shorten the wait for season 3.
Gilligan, meanwhile, has been relatively candid about the lengthy production process. He has made clear that Pluribus is not going to be produced at the pace of his earlier work, despite comparisons with Breaking Bad, which delivered 62 episodes across roughly five and a half years.
The television landscape has changed considerably since then, and Gilligan’s current approach is considerably more deliberate.
