Bank of America executive killed in knife attack near Times Square

A 32-year-old vice president at Bank of America was killed in a stabbing in New York’s Times Square. Police shot and killed the female suspect at the scene

Erin Piacenti, a 32-year-old vice president at Bank of America, was killed in a knife attack on a New York City street.

Authorities said the incident took place at around 4:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday near West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue. A female attacker stabbed a 32-year-old woman and a 68-year-old man before police shot and killed her at the scene.

Bloomberg News identified the woman who died as Piacenti. The injured man was taken to hospital and is in stable condition.

Bank of America said in a statement that it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by Piacenti’s death.

“She was a valued member of our team and will be deeply missed. Our hearts are with her family and everyone who loved her,” the bank said.

Police describe attack as random

New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the attack appeared to be random and unprovoked.

Tisch said officers who arrived at the scene attempted to subdue the attacker with a Taser before opening fire. However, they were unable to stop her as she continued advancing toward them with knives.
