Patrick Clancy and his wife Rachel Danis are starting a family

Clancy spoke publicly about his grief and his future with Danis in his first interview since his former wife’s murder trial ended in a mistrial.

Patrick Clancy and his wife, Dr. Rachel Danis, are starting a family, Clancy revealed in a new 60 Minutes interview, his first since the murder trial of his former wife, Lindsay Clancy, ended in a mistrial.

The couple did not say whether they are expecting a child. Asked by 60 Minutes correspondent Ross Douthat whether they were starting a family, however, Danis replied, “Yeah.”

Clancy said he hopes to tell any future children about their late siblings, Cora, Dawson and Callan.

“I can’t wait to tell them about their brothers and sister,” he said.

A new chapter

Clancy and Danis married in April after meeting at a run club in New York in January 2024.

Danis said she first learned about Clancy’s children during an early coffee date, when she noticed a photograph of them on his phone. She asked who they were, and Clancy told her they were his children and that they had died.

Danis said her role has been to help Clancy carry his grief while keeping the memory of the children present.

“I can’t bring his kids back,” she said. “But if I can honor them and allow Pat to grieve but also just continue to honor them in the present, I guess that’s all I can do.”

Clancy said his life had changed “in such a positive way” since meeting Danis.

Grief and the trial

In the interview, Clancy also spoke about the period following the deaths of his children and the emotional toll of the subsequent trial.

He said he experienced suicidal thoughts after their deaths and at one point did not expect to live to see his 35th birthday. Moving to Manhattan, he said, gave him a degree of anonymity and allowed him to grieve away from public attention.

He recalled marking his son Callan’s first birthday months after his death by lighting a candle at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

During Lindsay Clancy’s trial, Patrick said he experienced a severe panic attack before taking the stand. He was taken to an ambulance but declined medication and returned to court to complete his testimony.

Lindsay Clancy is being held at Tewksbury Hospital in Massachusetts. Prosecutors have not announced whether she will face a retrial.
